PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a near-field light generating element for easily and inexpensively processing a tip of the element without using highly advanced microfabrication techniques.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a near-field light generating element, which comprises a frustum 102 of a polygonal cone and generates near-field light from an opening formed at the tip of the frustum 102, includes: a forming step of forming a metal film on a side face of the frustum 102; and after forming the metal film, a residue removing step of removing a residue of the metal film remaining on the side face and on a top face of the frustum 102 by adding external force to the residue. |
