PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the positions of characteristic facial parts from shifting, when synthesizing multiple facial images by continuously varying the shape interpolation ratio, to permit retaining of a resemblance between a synthesized facial image and any of the source facial image by part, and to permit changing of facial expression using a simple operation. SOLUTION: The facial image processing apparatus comprises a first shape matching processor 11 for roughly matching a facial image G1 with a background facial image G3; a second shape matching processor 12 for roughly matching a facial image G2 with the background facial image G3; a shape interpolation processor 1 for interpolating, for shape interpolation, the coordinates of corresponding points in the matched shape models of the facial images G1 and G2 and the shape model of the background facial image G3 by a prescribed ratio; and a color interpolation processor 2 for interpolating the color of each corresponding pixel in the shape model interpolated, for the shape, by the shape interpolation processor 1, using the prescribed ratio.
