PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reel in which the outer peripheral surface of a hub constitutes an appropriate shape in a state that a recording tape is wound around the reel, and a recording tape cartridge. SOLUTION: In the reel 10, the outer peripheral surface of a cylindrical section 34C of a reel hub 32 is made a tape winding surface 34C where a magnetic tape T is wound around. The tape winding surface 34C forms a nearly tapered shape having a larger outer diameter than a lower end 34D side having higher rigidity at a top end 34E having relatively lower rigidity in a radial direction in a free state and forms a shape nearly symmetrical in the transverse direction of the magnetic tape T as shown in an imaginary line in a state that the magnetic tape T is wound around the tape winding surface 34C.
