A method for accessing a memory in a video processing device is provided to enable the minimum number of memory accesses during motion compensation operation to have more efficient operation capability, thereby easily performing an H.264 decoder in real time. A method for accessing a memory comprises the following steps of: portioning a macro block and load corresponding 8x8 block pixels and residual pixel data for inter prediction from a frame buffer, and storing and using the loaded 8x8 block pixels and residual pixel data in performing the inter prediction of an 8x8 block; and reusing the pixel data stored in a start memory in the inter prediction of the 8x8 block and sub blocks.
