PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle periphery monitoring system with the wireless connection configuration simplified. SOLUTION: The vehicle periphery monitoring system 1 includes a camera 5 installed on a present vehicle 3 and for imaging the present vehicle periphery; an image processing apparatus 7 for processing an image imaged by the camera 5; and a display apparatus 9 for displaying the imaged image processed by the image processing apparatus 7. The image processing apparatus 7 includes a discrimination section 7a for discriminating the driving state of the present vehicle 3, on the basis of the imaged image of the camera 5; and a control section 7b for controlling the display of the display section 9, on the basis of a result of the discrimination by the discrimination section 7a. The wiring connection configuration between the system 1 and an external part is simplified by discriminating the drive state of the present vehicle 2, without using an on-vehicle signal of the present vehicle 3 (external part), in this way.
