Paper sizing - with water sol copolyolefin salts to give alkali resistant finish

The salts are prepd. by photocopolymsn. of (a) 50 - 90 wt.% 2 - 12C alpha-olefins (b) 20 - 40 wt.% acrylic and/or methacrylic acid and (c) 10 - 20 wt.% 1 - 4C esters, amides or nitriles of acrylic and/or methacrylic acid, 1 - 4C vinyl esters, vinyl halides, maleic anhydride, maleic and/or fumaric acid half esters, and/or half amide and/or 3 - 6C unsatd. alcohols followed by neutralisation with (in)organic bases. Papers of high filler content can be sized and the copolymers are easily worked having K-values of 15 - 30.
