PURPOSE:To attain registration processing of a key word automatically by providing a keyword extracting section, extracting a designated picture data among picture data of an input document and using the result of recognition as the key word of the input document. CONSTITUTION:In registering a document, a picture data of the document inputted from a picture input section 8 is stored in a picture storage section 9 at first and displayed on a display section 10. The operator designates the key word among the displayed pictures on the display section 10 by using a cursor of a character designation section 11 for the characters added to the document. When the character is designated by the designation section 11 of the keyword extracting section 12, the picture data of the designated part among the picture data of the input document stored in the storage section 9 is extracted, the character is recognized and the result is used as the key word. Then the key word is added to the picture data of the inputted document is registered and processed automatically by providing the key word extracting section 12 in this way.
