PURPOSE:To obtain a durable vapor lubricating surface by covering the vapor lubricating surface with a grinding dish which is shaped so as to contact with only the end part of said vapor lubricating surface and ultrasonically oscillating any one of or both the grinding dish and a magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:The vapor lubricating surface of a floating magnetic head 1 is converted with the grinding dish 2 which is worked at its shape so as to contact with only the end part of the vapor lubricating surface. When any one of or both the magnetic head 1 and the grinding dish 2 is ultrasonically oscillated under said status, the end part of the vapor lubricating surface of the magnetic head 1 is smoothed. Since the end part of the vapor lubricating surface is smoothed, the durability of both the magnetic head 1 and a recording medium can be strengthened.
