PURPOSE:To permit formation of a casting mold having a thin layer of molding sand by sticking the molding sand via a mold coating layer onto the surface an expendable pattern and subjecting the molding sand to microwave heating to cure the molding sand and to expend the expendable pattern. CONSTITUTION:A water soluble mold coating material 11 is coated on the surface of the expendable pattern 10 and such pattern is set in a flask 13 imposed on a vibration table 12, then the molding sand 14 is packed therein. The molding sand 14 sticks in the form of a layer onto the surface of the mold coating layer 15 on the surface of the taken-out expendable pattern 10. Foamed alumina 17 or the like is laid in the flask 16 and the above-mentioned expendable pattern 10 is placed thereon. The above-mentioned alumina 17 is packed around the pattern. The entire part thereof is sealed into a microwave heating furnace 18 and is subjected to the microwave heating to cure the molding sand 14 and to expend the pattern 10. The casting mold 19 having the mold coating layer 15 is thus obtd. The casting mold having the the thin layer of the molding sand 14 is thereby formed without requiring the heat resistance of the flask 16.
