PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical filter capable of selectively cutting light of wavelength degrading color purity and correcting color balance by respectively specifying the range of maximum absorption and transmission factors in wavelength maximum. SOLUTION: An optical filter is used, which has stratiform construction of total six or more layers made of alternating laminated layer of two or more sorts of substances, absorption maximum in the range of 560-620 nm, and the transmission factor under 50% in the wavelength maximum. In this case, the filter layer is manufactured following to the well-known principle of multi-layer reflecting films, having construction of two or more layers of different refraction factors alternately laminated. The absorption maximum in the range of wavelength 560-620 nm is set for selectively cutting subband degading the color purity of a red fluorescent substance. In a plasma display panel(PDP), unnecessary emitted light in the vicinity of 585 nm discharged by excitation of neon gas is also cut.
