<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new type matrix converter which can be operated under high voltage, and in which the control of a switch is performed apart from the terminal of the switch. <P>SOLUTION: The matrix converter transforms electrical energy between at least one voltage source (1) in particular a power supply network, and at least one current source (2) in particular a load. The matrix converter includes a matrix composed of the switches (6) connecting the voltage sources (1) to the current sources (2); each switch (6, 16) has two terminals (5) which are interconnected via a photoconductive layer of diamond (4); and each switch (6) is controlled by means of a light source (7) irradiating the photoconductive layer of diamond (4) interposed between the two terminals (5) of the switch (6). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
