A method of operating multiple speakers, the method comprising: detecting a plurality of available sound output devices when audio data is played back; detecting user position information and user direction information of a user; generating a plurality of pieces of sound information from the audio data, based on at least one of the detected user position information and the user direction information; and distributing each of the plurality of pieces of sound information to a corresponding sound output device from among the plurality of available sound output devices; recognizing a change in at least one of a position and a direction of the user; when a change in at least one of the position and the direction of the user is recognized, re-detecting at least one of the user position information and the user direction information; and regenerating a plurality of pieces of sound information from the audio data, based on the at least one of re-detected user position information and the user direction information, wherein the regenerating of the plurality of pieces of sound information comprises converting a number of sound output channels from m to n (m>0, n>0, m≠n).
