<p>The filtration takes place across smooth surfaced membranes with pore sizes of 1 x 10-2 - 1 x 10-4 mm esp. 2 x 10-4 - 3 x 10-4 mm, and the liq. passes over the surface so that the static press. head perpendicular to the surface is 3.0mm of water column. The velocity head of the suspension is regulated to be greater than the static press. head times the coefft. of friction between the particles in the suspension and the surface of the membrane times the ratio of max. to min. particles size. auxiliary filter material, esp. sawdust, is added to the suspension in proportion of esp. 0.01-0.1 wt.% to meet the following conditions. Individual particle sizes of the additive are at least two powers of ten larger than those of the particles in the original suspension, the ratio of max. to min. particle sizes of the additive is 1.0-2.0 esp. 1.0-1.5 and their coefft. of friction with the membrane is 0.3. High handling capacity and high quality filtrate yield are obtd.</p> |
