Pretreatment of conifer woods prior to gloss finishing - by impregnation with thermosetting resin soln., pref. diisocyanate

Conifer sections, pref. spruce or pine, intended for gloss coating are first dimensionally stabilised. They are pretreated in a suitable vessel by application of press. and vacuum with a soln. of a thermosetting resin. This can be a diisocyanate, butylated urea-, guanidine- melamine- or diisocyanate, butylated urea-, guanidine- melamine- or dicyandiamide- CH2O resin, precondensed, water-soluble urea-, guanidine- or dicyandiamide-resin, unsatd. polyester resin or epoxy resin. Method is suitable for treatment of wood articles to be exposed to exterior weathering, such as window frames. The weather- and water-resistance and the adhesion and protective effect of the finish are considerably improved.
