1490955 Preparing liposomes BATTELLE MEMORIAL INSTITUTE 12 Jan 1976 959/76 Heading A5B [Also in Division B1] Synthetic liposomes are prepared by dispersing a first aqueous liquid by ultrasonic vibration in a carrier liquid insoluble or slightly soluble in water with a density less than water with a compound XY, where X=hydrophilic polar group and Y=hydrophobic non-polar group, to form a colloidal dispersion, combining this dispersion with a second aqueous liquid to form a heterogeneous two layer system and centrifuging at an angular velocity sufficient to force the dispersed globules into the lower layer of the second aqueous liquid (see Division B1). The first aqueous liquid may be an aqueous solution of a biologically active substance, e.g. an enzyme or an antibiotic. |
