Mechanical pipe expansion tool - has spiral grooves in head face engaging with weld seams in pipe

The mechanical expansion tool is for a metal pipe formed with and internal spiral weld seam and/or an intersecting one. It has an expandible head acting on the pipe in all directions. An outer working surface on the head acts against the pipe, and has a first spiral groove (13) formed in it, to engage with the spiral welded seam (15) of the pipe, and a second one (12) working with the intersecting seam. Guides can be provided for positioning the head in the pipe so that grooves and seams coincide. There can be two spiral grooves, engaging alternately with different sections of the spiral seam as the head is moved forward for successive expansion operations.
