The invention relates to a gas generator for producing burnable gas from lumpy fuel, having an inner gasifying shaft (1) and an outer jacket (11). To allow a simple repair or exchange of the lower part (2) of the gasifying shaft (1) which is susceptible to wear and which limits the hot reaction space (3), the lower part (2) of the gasifying shaft (1) is connected via flanges (5, 6) to the upper part (4) of the gasifying shaft (1) by means of a releasable screw connection (7).
