Appliance for preparing coffee, tea or the like having a water heater, which is connected on the one hand to a water reservoir, accessible from the top side, and on the other hand merges with a hot-water riser, opening out via the filter, and has an electric heating element in the circuit of which there is provided an on-off switch and a thermostat for maintaining a constant keeping-warm temperature once the water has been boiled and the appliance has an indicating device for advanced furring, the indicating device indicating advanced furring being activatable by an electronic timer, which responds in the event of a corresponding, furring-induced exceeding of the time, required without furring and stored in the timer, between the switching-on of the appliance and the first switching-off of the heating element by the thermostat.
