The invention relates to a process and a device for the mechanical separation of adhering liquid and internal liquid with the aim of achieving a higher moisture removal than in the case of conventional installations with purely mechanical liquid separation. For this purpose, the solid from which moisture is to be removed is additionally exposed to a microwave radiation during the process of mechanical liquid separation. This has the effect that the solid releases liquid stored in its interior to a greater extent than in the case of a purely mechanical liquid separation, this liquid then being removed from the solid by means of the mechanical separation device. The elevated release of liquid is explained by the partial evaporation of the liquid in the interior of the solid and the pressure elevation associated therewith, which effects an additional overcoming of the adhesive forces between solid and liquid. As far as the device is concerned, a device for the mechanical separation of liquid, for example a filter or a centrifuge, is to be equipped with at least one microwave radiator in a suitable way.
