The speed limiter of the invention includes, on each of its lateral supports, two resilient members (24, 25) with delayed action. The first spring member (24) provides a contact pressure between the drum (6) and its driving unit, namely a case or pallet, or rollers in the case of an indirect assembly. The second spring member (25) is biased when, under a substantial speed of the load, the drum (6) rotates supporting arms (51) and misaligns said arms (51 and 52). Since the extension resistance of spring member (25) is greater than that of spring member (24), the grip between the drum and its driving unit is substantially increased.
