PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a discharge lamp easily start even if it is in a dark condition, without providing a light source for emitting primary electrons for the discharge lamp. SOLUTION: In a lighting appliance which comprises a discharge lamp, an inverter part 2, and a current limiter element 3 provided therein, in which the aforesaid discharge lamp is provided with paired non-preheating electrodes, the aforesaid inverter part feeds high frequency electric power to the discharge lamp 1, and the aforesaid current limiter element is connected in series with the discharge lamp 1 and the inverter part 2, it is so designed that a control means is provided so as to allow voltage to be applied to the discharge lamp 1 to be controlled in such a way that primary electrons are produced inside the discharge lamp when the light of the discharge lamp 1 is turned out. |
