The composite plate-type component has an exposed face on a thin plate of heavy and brittle material such as stone or glass. On the opposite side of the plate (1) is a reinforcing layer (2) of cellular or honeycomb structure, which is joined to a cover plate (3) at the rear side. On the other side of the cover plate is an equalising layer (4) of material more easily removable than that of the front plate. Its thickness is such that it can be cut away to fit against the base surface without damage to the component. USE/ADVANTAGE - Easy formation of smooth exposed surface.
