PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily manufacture a product which has a desired reflection attenuation factor at low cost without using a special member or special machining technology by inserting a coreless fiber which has nearly the same refractive index with that of the core of an optical fiber into a ferrule main body and machining an end surface of the ferrule main body into a convex spherical surface. SOLUTION: The coreless fiber 10 is made of quartz glass, etc., and has nearly the same refractive index with that of the core part of the optical fiber on the whole. The coreless fiber 10 is inserted into the center hole of the standard ferrule main body 11 made of zirconia and fixed with an adhesive. Further, the tip part 12 of the ferrule 1 constituted by inserting the coreless fiber 10 into the ferrule main body 11 is formed into a convex spherical surface. This manufacturing technology is equivalent to the technology that an ordinary optical fiber is inserted into a ferrule and polished and neither a special tool nor special machining technology is needed to lower the manufacture cost. Further, polishing for removing a hard layer is performed in end surface machining to secure a >=40 dB reflection attenuation factor quantity. |
