PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and properly set an optimum control parameter of an electronically controlled internal combustion engine by using much less data, concerning a control parameter value setting device and method for an electronically controlled internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: An electronically controlled internal combustion engine 1 is operated by an initial value for detecting an optimum value set for each control parameter according to the operating state of the electronically controlled internal combustion engine 1, and an optimum value of each control parameter is set from a response value of the engine at that time. In this case, a limit line corresponding to the allowable limit of each response value by the curve approximation is estimated from the initial values related to first and second control parameters and respective response values obtained from response value detecting means 11 to 13, and the optimum value is set to a specified optimum value so as to be an optimum value in the range specified by the limit line.
