PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tetraphenylmethane derivative and a light-emitting element having high emission efficiency, high luminance and excellent color purity. SOLUTION: This tetramethylphenylmethane derivative is represented by general formula (1) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>20</SP>are each selected from hydrogen, an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an aralkyl group, an alkenyl group, a cycloalkenyl group, an alkynyl group, hydroxy group, mercapto group, an alkoxy group, an alkylthio group, an arylether group, an arylthioether group, an aryl group, a heterocyclic group, a halogen, a haloalkane, a haloalkene, a haloalkyne, cyano group, an aldehyde group, carbonyl group, carboxy group, an ester group, carbamoyl group, amino group, nitro group, silyl group, siloxanyl group and a cyclic structure formed between the adjacent substituents, with the proviso that at least one of R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>5</SP>and at least one of R<SP>6</SP>to R<SP>10</SP>are each a substituent having a pyridine ring skeleton). The light-emitting element is obtained by using the compound as a light-emitting substance present between the anode and the cathode and capable of emitting light with electrical energy.
