Process for recovering hydroperoxides

Production of hydroperoxide (I) from a starting material (II) comprising at least one unsaturated fatty acid (UFA), UFA derivatives and/or native oils or fats containing UFA comprises: (a) lipoxidase-catalyzed peroxidation of (II) in the presence of catalase; (b) optionally separating the aqueous phase from the oil phase, and (c) optionally chemically converting (I) and optionally formulating the product. Production of hydroperoxide (I) from a starting material (II) comprising at least one unsaturated fatty acid (UFA), UFA derivatives and/or native oils or fats containing UFA comprises: (a) lipoxidase-catalyzed peroxidation of (II) in the presence of catalase at 5-50degreesC, where the catalase produces oxygen (for peroxidation) in situ from added hydrogen peroxide; (b) optionally separating the aqueous phase (with the enzymes) from the oil phase, and (c) optionally chemically converting (I) and optionally formulating the product. Independent claims are also included for: (1) production of sulfonates for fatting leather, by sulfonation of (I) obtained by the above process using sulfur trioxide, sodium bisulfite, sulfuric acid, oleum, chlorosulfonic acid or amidosulfonic acid, and (2) production of hydroxy-octadecadienoic acid (HODE) and/or hydroxy-octadienoic acid derivatives, by selective reduction of (I) obtained by the above process, preferably using sodium borohydride.
