摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical connector which reduces optical loss at an end face of a plastic optical fiber while dispensing with processing to make the end face of the plastic optical fiber into a mirror surface. <P>SOLUTION: The optical connector is provided with a ferrule 1 which is used to hold a primary coated optical fiber 101 that is to be inserted into a holding hole 2 and a translucent plate 3 which is used to close the opening of the distal end side of the ferrule 1. A connecting section 4 is arranged at the distal end portion of the holding hole 2. The connecting section 4 is made of a gelled material having a refractive index equivalent to the refractive index of the primary coated optical fiber 101 and is used to optically connect the translucent plate 3 to the optical fiber 101. When the primary coated optical fiber 101 is inserted into the holding hole 2 of the ferrule 1, the connecting section 4 is deformed and comes in close contact with the end face of the primary coated optical fiber 101 and the surface of the translucent plate 3. Thus, even though the end face of the primary coated optical fiber 101 is left as an original rough surface, the translucent plate 3 and the primary coated optical fiber 101 are connected through the connecting section 4 with low optical loss. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p>
