Negative torque e.g. brake torque, creating method for e.g. petrol engine of motor vehicle, involves opening one of intake valves only near piston`s bottom dead center during phase of cycle, before reaching center and till end of phase

The method involves varying an opening/closing pattern of exhaust valves and intake valves of corresponding cylinders of an internal combustion engine e.g. petrol engine, functioning according to a four-phase cycle. One of the intake valves is opened only near a piston`s bottom dead center during a cycle`s intake phase (PMB ADM), before reaching the center and till an end of the phase. A quantity of air admitted in one of the cylinders during an opening time of the intake valve, is adjusted for adjusting a negative torque`s e.g. brake torque, absolute value created with a desired set point.
