The tractor transmission system comprises sets of change-speed gears both for the drive to the wheels and to the power take-off. A main input shaft carries a set of pinions transmitting the engine torque, and on opposite sides of this shaft are the driving gears to wheels and power take-off. Each of these latter sets of gears has a set of change-speed pinions turning freely on a gearchange shaft, which has an axial bore accommodating a selector rod extending and retracting fingers radially so as to engage grooves in the pinions. By sliding the selector rod axially into a particular position a finger is caused to engage in a groove in the internal peripheral face of a pinion, thus coupling the pinion to the shaft.
|
