<p>The side-hung flap is recoil sprung and used at the foot of a waste disposal chute, to break the fall of the refuse. It comprises a rectangular plate (11), which closes the base of the chute when at repose, and is mounted on cantilever coil springs (13) which form the hinge. The springs act in torsion to absorb the impact of falling refuse, and may be substituted by rubber pads or straps. An alternative hinge uses a reduced plate (11) thickness along the edge, and the plates may be used in pairs hung from opposite chute walls (12).</p> |
