PURPOSE:To adequately change pickling conditions and to prevent the decrease of the yield of a steel strip product by excessive or deficient pickling by turning on and off the supply of the pickling soln. into plural pickling ducts according to the change in the characteristics of the steel strip at the time of passing the steel strip in said ducts and pickling the same. CONSTITUTION:The steel strip 1 is passed and moved in the plural ducts 5a-5d and the pickling soln. 3 in a vessel 2 is supplied through 3-way valves 8a-8d by pumps 9a-9d into the respective ducts. The pickling soln. is injected from nozzles 7a-7d to the steel strip to pickle and descale the steel strip. The 3-way valves 8a-8d of the plural ducts 5a-5d are changed over according to the conditions of the change to return the pickling soln. to part of the ducts when the temp., quality, scale characteristic, etc., of the steel strip 1 change. The pickling capacity by the plural ducts is thereby made to meet directly with the change in the characteristics of the steel strip, by which the generation of the steel strip having the defective surface by the excessive or deficient pickling treatment of the steel strip is prevented.
