In order to bring about a significant reduction in the space requirement and the structural complexity of a machine for cleaning bottles having an endless conveyor for the bottles and treatment devices assigned to the latter, the endless conveyor being guided after the fashion of a horizontal spiral into at least two regions with transverse movement in opposite directions, without loss to the treatment section, the regions (A, B) of the endless conveyor (17) with transverse movement in opposite directions and the associated treatment devices are arranged one on top of the other at different heights. <IMAGE>
