A method is claimed for forming the bottom of several circular grooves (3) and guidance curves (6) regularly distributed around the axis of a mechanical component, in which is forcefully introduced, by means of a press, into each of the grooves (3) of the mechanical component that is retained by a die fixed to a first press plate, a ball (4) integral with a second press plate. Each ball (4) is given a radial displacement progressively so that the ball (4) penetrates to the bottom of the groove (3) under the action of the press. Each ball (4) is pushed in a direction essentially tangential to the guidance curve (6) described by the centre of the ball (4) by guiding it along its trajectory. The device used to put this method into operation is also claimed.
