Throttle-free control for IC engine

The IC engine has separate cylinders controlled by actuators on the inlet and exhaust valves. The actuators operate independent to the engine speed to regulate the separate gas flows through each cylinder. For minimum engine torque at least one cylinder has its actuators set for free movement in a controlled manner to reduce gas flow without requiring a throttle valve. During free movement in the valves for one cylinder, the other cylinders are controlled with partial free movement. The control valve is varied to even out any thermal effects in the engine.
