PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element with excellent contrast without occurrence of crosstalk by improving voltage retention in a liquid crystal display element duty-driven with a structure wherein a liquid crystal material of a small specific resistance is used and moreover, a thin film transistor, etc., are not used. SOLUTION: In this liquid crystal display element, a segment substrate 11 provided with segment electrodes 13 on the surface in parallel and a common substrate 21 provided with common electrodes 23 on the surface in parallel are stuck with a fixed spacing in-between so that the segment electrodes 13 and the common electrodes 23 intersect each other and a picture element is formed at each intersection, and a liquid crystal layer 8 is formed in the spacing part. In this structure, capacitance electrodes 6 are provided on a part of segment electrodes composing the picture elements via a dielectric layer 5, and supplementary capacitance is formed between a part of the segment electrodes 13 of each picture element and the common electrode 23 of each pixel by electrically connecting the capacity electrodes 6 with the common electrodes 23 via conductive particles 7.
