<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it more comfortable to use a document by means of electronic paper EP by detecting that the document displayed and maintained on a sheet of electronic paper EP is being used by a user, and making updates in a way that matches the detection of the use of the document. <P>SOLUTION: The sheet of electronic paper EP displays and maintains a document image on a display part 2 in a power-free condition. A sensor 7 is used to detect that a user is touching the sheet of electronic paper EP. Depending on the detection, an update process means 8 makes updates such as deleting the document image displayed and maintained on the display part 2 or changing it into another document. That is, the user's touch is detected to indirectly detect that the document displayed and maintained on the sheet of electronic paper EP has been browsed.
