In a device for untangling and separating tangled parts (10), for example incandescent lamp filaments, the tangled material (4) is subjected in a treatment chamber (20) to the effect of a gaseous or liquid treatment medium which is fed through the chamber base (5). In order to design such a device so as to be simple and free of maintenance and to make it usable for different kinds of small material, it is provided that the upper chamber wall lying opposite the base (5) of the treatment chamber (20) is at least partly designed as an inclined deflector plate (baffle) (11) by means of which at least partly separated tangled parts (10) which are carried upwards by the stream of treatment medium can be deflected into a discharge channel (16) in which a straining screen (17) for the discharge of the separated tangled parts (10) is provided and which discharge channel (16) is connected to the inlet to the treatment chamber (20) or to the inlet to a further treatment chamber (15), connected upstream of the treatment chamber, for the recirculation of tangled material parts which are still stuck together. The upstream treatment chambers (15, 3) can be connected to one another in series or in parallel, a further straining screen (17) being expediently provided in at least one of the connecting channels (16). <IMAGE>
