THERMOSTATIC PLATE FOR AN ELECTROPHORESIS APPARATUS

A thermostatic or constant temperature plate for use in electrophoresis apparatus in which a material under subjection to electrophoresis is caused to migrate through a flat layer of gel received on the plate. The plate consists of two flat glass sheets separated from one another to define an inner space through which a heat exchange medium is circulated. An adhesively bonded strip extending along the periphery of the two glass sheets seals off the inner space. The glass sheet on which the gel is mounted may be thinner than the other sheet and its outer surface supporting the gel may be gel repellant. The heat exchange medium may be passed through the inner space in a direction of flow substantially perpendicular to the migration direction of the investigated material in a zig-zag path.
