PURPOSE:To prevent the discoloration of a steel plate and to improve the yield of coils by maintaining the front and rear surfaces of the steel plate in a wet state and cooling the same during the time when the steel plate emerging from the final pickling tank enters a washing tank after the acid liquid is squeezed away by wringer roll groups. CONSTITUTION:The acid liquid kept at an ordinary temp. is sprayed from nozzles 9, 10 onto the steel plate 1 from the front and rear sides thereof between the liquid surface 5 of the final pickling tank 2 for removing the scale formed on the steel plate 1 and the first wringer roll 7 in the pickling stage for the steel plate consisting in squeezing the acid liquid on the plate 1 by >=1 sets of the wringer roll groups 4 between the pickling tank 2 and the washing tank 3 for washing away the acid liquid sticking onto the steel plate 13 after the pickling. The water kept at an ordinary temp. is then sprayed from nozzles 11, 12, 13, 14 and nozzle groups 15, 16 of a washing away part to the steel plate 12 in the roll groups 4 and the steel plate 13 after pickling from the front and rear sides thereof. The steel plate is thereby cooled and maintained in the wet state and the discoloration thereof is prevented.
