A chewable composition, in particular a chewing gum, is distinguished by containing at least one material which is suitable for diagnostic purposes and which reacts with a characteristic change in colour and/or taste on contact with a substance which is normally not present or is present in higher or lower concentration in a healthy person's saliva. A deviation from normal body temperature can also be indicated in this way. The chewable composition according to the invention is accordingly suitable in particular for self diagnosis or rapid diagnosis of simple disorders as well as for indicating functional, preferably hormonal, processes.
