The radio reception and car-radio antennas which are provided for installation in a motor vehicle have noise levels in the present generation of vehicles, especially medium class or higher class vehicles, which have been found to be unpleasant and are audible in the vehicle passenger compartment, particularly when driving at high speeds. In order to reduce and to suppress this noise, which is produced by the antenna, the invention provides for at least one circumferential helix (7) to be constructed on the antenna (1) and/or on individual antenna sections (1' to 1'''). The helix (7) has a pitch of 1 to 10 times the antenna diameter, a thickness and/or height of 0.05 to 0.5 times the associated antenna diameter. Even when one helix (7) is sufficient, very favourable values result when using three helixes (7) which are circumferential located offset with respect to one another. The antenna in the form of a rod is suitable for radio antennas and directional-radio antennas on motor vehicles. <IMAGE>
