PURPOSE:To inspect the electromagnetic transducing characteristic of a thin film magnetic head at a time of a protecting layer is finished to be formed by forming an inspection coil layer via an insulating layer with a coil layer, and removing a part having the inspection coil layer by cutting after covering an upper magnetic layer with the insulating layer. CONSTITUTION:The coil layer 12 and the inspection coil layer 13 are formed on a gap layer 11 via the insulating layers (14-17), and the upper magnetic layer 18 is formed so as to cover the coil layer 12 and the inspection coil layer 13, and after the upper magnetic layer 18 is covered with the insulating layer 19, cutting is applied between the coil layer 12 and the inspection coil layer 13, then, the part having the inspection coil layer 13 is removed. Thereby, since it is possible to decide the normal/defective condition of the electromagnetic transducing characteristic of the magnetic layer before the thin film magnetic head is finished in prescribed gap depth by utilizing the inspection coil layer 13, and it is not required to pass a defective thin film magnetic head through a succeeding process, productivity can be improved. |
