<p>An improved rotary valve (10) is provided with a bellows (64) surrounding a bent shaft (56) to create a hermetic seal and thereby prevent fluid loss from the interior of the valve body (12). The shaft is provided within a seal assembly housing (14), and has a lower end axis offset from the valve stem axis, and an upper end axis offset from the lower end axis. The bellows (64) is fixedly secured at its upper end to the seal assembly housing (14) and its lower end to an end cap (66) to prevent fluid within the cavity (54) from passing out the seal assembly housing (14). An epicyclic gearing assembly (75) is provided within the cavity (54) and mechanically interconnects the lower end of the shaft (56) to the valve stem (24). An actuator (16) may be provided for connection with the upper end of the shaft (56) for rotating the shaft. The actuating device (16) of the present invention may be used for rotating various members mounted within an enclosure while sealing the enclosure from the environment. The apparatus of the present invention has a significant advantage in that it combines a hermetically sealed valve (10) with a valve (18) that requires low torque output for the valve operator.</p> |
