PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diagnostic method and a diagnostic kit for periodontal disease rapidly, easily and accurately performing diagnosis on presence or absence of the periodontal disease or forecasting progress of the disease. SOLUTION: The invention relates to the method for diagnosing degree of progress in the periodontal disease comprising a step contacting a phenolic compound selected from gallic acid and its derivative, tannic acid, pyrogallol, catechol, catechin and anthocyanidin, and acetaldehyde and hydrogen peroxide with saliva, and a step measuring luminescence intensity of chemiluminescence of peroxidase in the saliva. The invention relates to the method for diagnosing periodontal disease comprising a diagnosing reagent A containing the phenolic compound selected from gallic acid and its derivative, tannic acid, pyrogallol, catechol, catechin and anthocyanidin, and acetaldehyde, and a diagnosing reagent B containing the hydrogen peroxide.
