Contrast media particularly useful for X-ray diagnostic investigations on man and animals, consisting of 2,2',4,4',6,6'-hexaiodobiphenyl derivatives carrying one or more (poly)hydroxyalkoxyl, polyoxaalkoxyl, - N(D)COR4 (wherein D = H, alkyl, (poly)hydroxylakyl and R4 = (poly)hydroxylakyl), CONR2R3 (wherein R2 and R3, which are the same or different, are H, alkyl, (poly)hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, polyoxaalkyl ....) chains.
