PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal flat rod material for a grating manufacturing flat steel, which is equal in bending resistance performance to a sectionally rectangular flat steel, in a sectional shape satisfactory to welding requirement, excellent in stability impairment resistance performance in the horizontal direction and suitable to hot rolling formation. SOLUTION: The sectional shape of a flat steel 11 is made symmetrical with two lines (x), (y) crossing each other through a graphical center O. The sectional shape has a middle portion equally thick and rectangular along the extending direction of the line (y) and portions extending from both ends of the equally thick portion formed in an equal-leg trapezoidal shape gradually thicker toward the ends.
