PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cable having a comparatively small cross-talk when the bit transmission speed is high for a relatively long distance. SOLUTION: This local area network cable 17 capable of making high-speed signal transmission has a plurality of twist pairs 12, 13, 14, 16 consisting of conductors encapsulated in a sheath. Each twist pair has a different number of twists from the others, and at least one pair has a twist direction different from the others, i.e. it can have a clockwise twist in the case where the other pairs have counterclockwise twist. If the cable is of four-pair type, two pairs having different number of twists are given a clockwise twist while the other pairs are given a counterclockwise twist.
