PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switch such that the maintainability of a ballast can be enhanced by enabling the ballast to be easily and sufficiently compacted. SOLUTION: A connecting rod 50 is placed in a space SP between adjacent sleepers which is different from a space SP in which an operating rod 41, a locking rod 45 and the like are placed, so that the connecting rod 50 and the operating rod 41 do not obstruct the movement of a compacting tool into and out of one of the spaces SP.
