PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently notify the lapse information of a public key certificate from a PKI(public key infrastructure) directory server to a PKI directory client. SOLUTION: Authentication stations CA-0, CA-1 and CA-2 in an authentication station structure are respectively made to correspond to container entries 100, 101 and 102 in a directory tree. End entities EE-1, EE-2 and EE-3 in the authentication station structure are respectively made to correspond to leaf entries 110, 111 and 112. Each entry has a public key certificate and a serial number. A newly issued certificate and its serial number are stored in the entry. After a prescribed time is passed, the certificate concerned is placed in a certain URL, and the certificate stored in the entry is replaced with URL information. A directory structure transmitted from a transmitting side is selectively received by the filtering mask of a receiving side, to change the directory of the receiving side.
