PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure a designed flowing quantity of cooling water and to reduce the cost by preventing water in a water jacket from flowing to the outside from an interval between a first plate and a second plate. SOLUTION: The second plate 18 is disposed in the outside part of the first plate 14 having a combustion chamber hole 11 and the both plates 14 and 18 are partially connected in the circumferential direction at the position of the water jacket in an engine side by calking and the thickness of the first plate 14 is set thicker than the thickness of the second plate 18 to form a plate thickness difference. Thereby, when this metal gasket interposes between the joining surfaces of a cylinder head and a cylinder block and fastens them by a fastening bolt, this gasket seals the joint surfaces by concentrating a bearing pressure in the circumference of the combustion chamber hole 11. This gasket is provided with a third plate 30 covering an interval between the first plate 14 and the second plate 18 on the water jacket. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
